Closeness pendant , wearable technology

A collaborative work By Amir Sheikhvand and Borzu Talaie

It was through our body that we related to the world around us for thousands of years. The body was the fulcrum of our approach to intimacy. It was the distance between bodies that defined the characteristics of our relationships.

Rooted in digital era and sitting comfortably on the body, which is a piece of interactive jewelry capable of measuring and displaying physical distances can challenge our interest in virtual networks. It reminds us that our values have been severely distorted and it assures us that the physical world cannot easily be replaced by the virtual.

This pendant is made out of copper wire and dipped into liquid rubber. A mini Arduino reads the distance by means of an ultrasonic range finder and associates different colors displayed by an RGB LED hidden under the gemstone to represent different degrees of closeness
